Starting our tour past the blue waters of Yamdrok Lake, we visit the Kumbum Stupa at Gyantse and the great Tashilunpo monastery at Shigatse. Across the great plateau, encountering nomad yak herders, with views of Makalu and Lhotse we reach the famous Rongbuk monastery under the great north face of Everest. Rising early to catch the dramatic sunrise on the snow flanks of the highest mountain in the world, we have a whole day to visit the famous base camp itself. Following the Rongshang valley we cross to Cho Oyu base, our next camp, and another fabulous sunset and rise. Shishapangma base completes this amazing trilogy. Over the last of our high passes, with a final view of Everest, we reach the Nepal border and the lush green descent to Kathmandu.
